WinMedical is a medical device company dedicated to development, marketing and commercialisation of an innovative, modular and wearable continuous vital signs monitoring system for Patients in low-acuity hospital care units and at home – WinPack.

WinMedical was founded in Pisa, Italy, in 2009 as a University spin-off of the “Scuola Superiore di Studi e Perfezionamento Sant’Anna” – one of the best Italian Universities and research centres. Winmedical’s mission is to create world class wireless medical systems based on cutting-edge technologies for the wellbeing of the humankind.

Alessandro Guazzoni

Chairman

Alessandro, after a Business Management Degree at L.Bocconi University Milan, starts working at Finance Department in IBM and Philip Morris Group. Then he moves to medical field. He has more than 30 years of experience in Diagnostic IVD market, he was Vice President of Beckman Coulter for South Europe until 2015/February. He was also Assodiagnostici President 2007/2011.

Donato Mazzeo

CEO and Co-founder

Donato is a young entrepreneur with over 10 years’ experience in the electronic engineering sector. In 2007 he joins the Finmeccanica Group where he develops new strategic ICT investments programs and manages the governance of the Group’s information systems. Donato holds a Master Degree in IT Systems Engineering for Business Management and an MBA in Innovation Management and Engineering Services. During his studies he was a member of the Board of Directors of several public sector companies, he then co-founded WinMedical and was appointed CEO.

Emmanuele Angione

Co-founder

Emmanuele gained over 10 years’ working experience in the international ecommerce sector before co-founding Winmedical. He graduated in Communication Sciences from the University of Macerata and earned an MBA in International Business from MIB School of management in Trieste, Italy. Emmanuele’s international experience in fast growing companies and his entrepreneurial spirit contributed to bring an international mindset to the company. He also actively mentors young entrepreneurs as part of programmes designed to nurture entrepreneurship.

Antonio Leone

Antonio has over 40 years’ experience as CEO of international medical device companies. He is the « healthcare wizard » and Chairman of Italian Angels for Growth (IAG) – the largest business angels group in Italy. He currently serves as a director on the board of several international companies.

Guido is the associate director of SICI – a Tuscany/Italy based investment fund – where he manages their technology innovation fund. Guido has extensive experience in investing in innovative start-ups and is a board member for several companies.

Pietro Valdastri

Prof. Valdastri’s academic career started with a Laurea degree cum Laude in Electronic Engineering from the University of Pisa in 2001 and a PhD degree cum Laude in Biomedical Engineering from Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in 2006, with Prof. Paolo Dario as primary advisor. After the PhD, he served as Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the BioRobotics Institute of Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna for three years, focusing on implantable medical devices and surgical robotics. In 2011, Prof. Valdastri moved to Vanderbilt University, where he became Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering, with secondary appointments in the Electrical Engineering Department and in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition of the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. At Vanderbilt University, Prof. Valdastri founded the Science and Technologies Of Robotics in Medicine (STORM) Lab (www.stormlab.xyz), a research lab focusing on medical capsule robots for gastrointestinal endoscopy and abdominal surgery. In 2016, he moved to Leeds as Chair of Robotics and Autonomous Systems with a primary appointment in the School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering and a secondary appointment in the School of Mechanical Engineering. In Leeds, Prof. Valdastri is directing the Institute of Robotics, Autonomous System and Sensing and the STORM Lab. Prof. Valdastri is a Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award holder, a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), one of the Editors of the IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, a member of the Technology Committee of the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery (EAES), and a member of the steering committee of the International Society for Medical Innovation and Technology (iSMIT).

Ferdinando De Negri

Medical Scientific Director and Co-founder

Ferdinando De Negri is a doctor of the Emergency Medicine Department in the University Hospital of Pisa, Italy. Ferdinando is author of numerous scientific articles published in major international medical journals. His contributions are primarily for in the field of internal medicine and hematology. He graduated in medicine in 1985 at the University of Pisa, and he is specialized in Internal Medicine, Hematology and Oncology.

Virginia Pensabene

Scientific Consultant and Co-founder

Virginia graduated in 2004 in Electronic Engineering from the University of Pisa and holds a PhD in Humanoid Technologies from the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Genova, Italy. She is currently Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN. Virginia has co-authored more than 10 peer-reviewed journal publications. She is currently serving as Key Personnel in two research projects funded by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Veterans Affairs at the Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN, and she is involved in large research projects funded by the National Institute of Health.

Monica Vatteroni

Scientific Consultant and Co-founder

Monica is a scientist at Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna of Pisa, and is the author and co-author of several publications in international ISI journals, magazines and international conferences, and in addition holds three patents. She holds a degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Pisa in 2001 and a Ph.D. in Physics at the University of Trento in 2008.

Sergio Scapellato

Scientific Consultant and Co-founder

Sergio has a strong consultancy background in the electronic and microelectronic device market with more than 10 years experience. He holds a degree in Electronic Engineering with a focus on Biomedicine. In 2003, he became a researcher at Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna of Pisa, Italy, earning him a PhD in Biomedical robotics (summa cum laude). He is currently working as an electronic engineer for Magneti Marelli, Bologna, Italy.
